PROJECT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
A number of key activities will take place on the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade between late February and mid-April 2017.
SUNDAY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
Between late February and mid-April 2017 Lendlease will undertake construction activities on Sundays between 7am and 7pm.
Work will involve digging trenches across Kingsford Smith Drive to install underground services at various locations between Riverview Terrace and College Street, Hamilton.
The additional Sunday shifts will reduce the impact of night work on local residents by allowing the project team to complete construction activities during the day that would otherwise need to be carried out at night.
During this work, traffic control will be in place on Kingsford Smith Drive with one lane open to traffic in each direction. Access to all side streets and properties will be maintained under the direction of traffic control.
In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled to the next available Sunday.
What to expect
- Use of equipment such as road saws, excavators, trucks and small cranes
- Truck movements to remove material from and deliver material to site
- Noise associated with the use of construction equipment
- Vehicles and equipment with flashing lights and white noise (non-tonal) reversing beepers for the safety of onsite workers
- Traffic control and signage to direct pedestrians, cyclists and motorists around the work areas.
Minimising night work
This work has been planned for Sundays to avoid having to carry out consecutive night shifts in close proximity to local residents.
Some works will still need to be completed at night between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday to maximise safety for motorists and road workers and to minimise traffic disruptions.
